Employment by Occupation

Occupational employment projections were collected from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO). The FDEO provides employment projections from 2023 through 2031. Furthermore, we use an education and training assignments crosswalk provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to match occupations with typical education needed for entry, work experience in a related occupation, and the typical on-the-job training needed to attain competency in the occupation.

The top five occupations with highest expected growth from 2023 to 2031 include Fast Food and Counter Workers (758 employees), Landscaping and Groundskeeping Workers (665 employees), Retail Salespersons (558 employees), Stockers and Order Fillers (535 employees), and Construction Laborers (451 employees). All of these occupations require no more than a high school diploma and no experience.

The top five occupations with the highest expected growth from 2023 to 2031 requiring five or more years of experience are General and Operations Managers (437 employees), First-Line Supervisors of Construction Trades and Extraction Workers (261 employees), Financial Managers (120 employees), Chefs and Head Cooks (94 employees), and Industrial Production Managers (19 employees). The median hourly wage for these occupations varied between $28.92 and $64.54.
